Basecamp did something hard: a project anyone can follow without training. One place per project, with its chat, its to-dos and its files. What it does not do, because it is not for that, is know what the project cost, who paid for it, or which customer order started it. Most companies keep that part somewhere else.
| Basecamp | Delorean | |
|---|---|---|
| A project | Messages, to-dos, files and schedule in one place. Nobody does it better | The same, plus the quote that started it and the hours it cost |
| To-dos | Lists per project, with owner and date | Tickets with owner, date, priority, subtasks and activity, plus a public link for the customer |
| The project customer | Invited to see part of it | A CRM record, with their quotes, sales and complaints |
| Money | Not there: kept elsewhere | Income, expenses, receivables and payables, same team |
| Chat | Campfire, per project | Channels per team and direct messages, plus the inbox with what customers write |
| Documents | Files per project | Folders with permissions, templates and comments, shareable with guests |
| AI agents | None | An agent per written brief, with a schedule and the permissions of whoever runs it |
| Price | Flat per company, unlimited people. Very clear | Per module: you switch on only what you use |
Written from each product's public documentation. They are mature tools and this page says where they are still better. No prices here: they change on their own and the page would end up lying without anyone touching it.
For keeping a project in order, it does the same. What it adds is everything around the project: who asked, what it cost, what was invoiced.
A project opens the same way: name, people, to-dos. The difference is the modules next to it are there, switched off, until you need them.
Yes, as a project guest: they see that project and nothing else. And a single ticket can be shared by link, no account.
Yes, per team and direct. And separately the support inbox, where customer WhatsApp and email messages land.
Yes, with owner and date. And an agent can create them on its own, from a written brief.
In Finance and Quotes, same team. An approved quote becomes the project.
It is web, from phone or computer. Nothing to install or update.
As many as your company has. Pricing is per module, not per person.
Projects load with their to-dos. Old messages are best left where they are.
In having nothing else. If your company does not need finance, customers or logistics in the same place, Basecamp is simpler and faster to learn.
